Drake's Prayer Book Cross San Francisco c. 1950s Postcard, 3 x 5 inches This Celtic cross was erected in Golden Gate Park in the thirties to celebrate the first use of the Common Book of Prayer in California by Sir. Francis Drake in 1579. Drake is believed to have visited either San Francisco Bay or Bodega Bay to repair and replenish supplies. This shows the cross in its previous glory. At the last visit, some of the facing had been vandalized, and the stream no longer flows. < back | next > |
