Byzantine Pendant Cross Balkans c. 6th-8th century Bronze, 1 inch This pendant cross shows the basic features found in many early crosses. The shape is a Greek cross with arms of equal length. The ends are flared. Circles of power on the cross represent the wounds of Christ or are simply decoration to reflect light. Most likely this hung from the arm of either a larger cross or another object. < back | next > |
